Once one has the DHCP address, the network configuration can be set through a web browser at: After reset (pressing "Connect" and "Bluetooth" together until the LED goes yellow), if a speaker is plugged into a wired network, it will try to get an IP over DHCP. I'm curious if anyone has tried configuring a HEOS speaker without the app?įor the network configuration, I found an easy approach that eliminated the need for the audio cable. This process was frustrating, but the only way Denon has published to configure the speakers is through the app.

Problems included using an audio cable with my phone (my current phone doesn't have an audio jack), the speaker light blinking green forever, a continual message in the app that the wifi password was wrong (it wasn't), settings not being kept across reboot of my phone or speakers, and the app randomly deciding when to allow my speakers to pair as a stereo pair. Following Denon's documentation, it took me two hours to get two speakers attached to the new access point. I just changed my access point, and was reminded of what a hassle configuring the speakers is. At this point in time, the only thing I would use the HEOS app for is configuration, and I'd like to ditch that as well. To play audio, I quickly ditched the app for other uPnP/DLNA software.

The one downside is that I find the Android App horrible to use. They sound amazing, and at the time of purchase, the HEOS 1 was half the price of other WiFi speakers. I use a pair of speakers in a stereo configuration and love them. I am really happy with my HEOS 1 speakers as a speakers.
